A Verdant Vow

Our work: Photo, Video
An adaptive reimagination of a 1960s three-level apartment in Hamilton, Brisbane
A Verdant Vow transforms the original structure into a climate-responsive home that reflects personal growth, sustainability, and contemporary living. Key interventions include relocating the main living space to connect with a mature tree canopy, integrating a sun-tracking stairwell as a central light source, and refining the building form through small but strategic subtractions. Rooted in reuse and careful detailing, the renovation quietly challenges the conventions of apartment living and offers a new model for revitalising Brisbane’s aging residential stock.
Our photography draws attention to the home’s layered character—balancing wide, medium, and detailed frames to reveal its context, materiality, and changing light. The visual tone references analogue film stock from the 60s and 70s, softening shadows and allowing a gentle bloom in the highlights. This treatment reflects the project’s design ethos: embracing its original structure while refining it with restraint and care.
The video explores transformation, spatial ingenuity, and the interplay between architectural precision and personal expression. Rather than a linear walk-through, the film follows how the home gradually reveals itself—from its distinctive façade through transitional spaces to the openness of the upper level. The edit mirrors the renovation’s approach to thresholds and movement, layering sequences with framed vignettes that echo the home’s thoughtful reworking of form and function.
