Pricing

Our guide for video production and photography

We understand that every project is unique. As such, pricing will vary based on the scope and complexity of the production. However, to give you a general idea of what to expect, we’ve outlined some basic rates for the various stages of production.

Preproduction

Preproduction is an essential phase of any video production, setting the foundation for a successful outcome. Our basic preproduction services start at $600 covering essentials such as planning and creating a filming schedule. If your project requires more detailed preparation—like developing storyboards, crafting scripts, drafting interview questions, or coordinating a more complicated production or a larger group of stakeholders—additional preproduction time may be required.

Gear

A small shoot might include just the basics: a camera, monitor, tripod, and lenses. For productions involving interviews or voiceover, we add audio gear, lighting, and teleprompters. To create more sophisticated and cinematic scenes, we may also bring in additional gear such as sliders, camera dollies, gimbals, and drones. Public liability insurance is also included. Gear and insurance for a small shoot starts at $450 per day and will increase based on the project’s requirements.

Film crew

For small shoots, a single camera operator might be all that’s needed. Whereas larger productions generally call for a two or three-person crew, with Nikolas directing and producing, alongside an audio recordist, assistant producer, or additional camera operators. When projects involve more equipment, complex direction, multiple interviews, or detailed styling, a larger team becomes essential to keep everything on track and to deliver the quality Ravens At Odds is known for.

Crew Day rate Half-day
Director/Producer $1,200 $800
Sound Recordist $1,100 $800
Assistant Producer/Camera Operator $900 $600
Production Assistant $600 $400

Editing

Our editing process is thorough and tailored to your project’s needs. It includes interview and voiceover editing, footage sequencing, colour grading, sound design, soundtrack integration, revision rounds, and final exporting, formatting, and delivery. Editing is charged at $900 per day. Short-form content may require one to two days, while longer formats may need three to four days or more.

Production fee

In addition to the direct costs of filming and editing, we apply a production fee to cover administrative expenses. This includes correspondence, coordination, booking crew and gear, shoot-day incidentals, metro area travel and parking, studio expenses, software licensing, server storage, archiving, and cloud services for backup and delivery. The production fee is calculated as a percentage of the production subtotal.

Expenses

Additional expenses may be necessary depending on the project, including permissions, location fees, notices, waivers, actors/talent, styling, staging, cleaning, content hosting, travel, and accommodation.

Architectural photography

Our architectural project photography fees comprise several components. Depending on the specific needs of the project, these include: the photographer’s day or half-day rates, the cost of an assistant, equipment and insurance, digital file handling, and a per-image editing fee. There are also optional extras like retouching fees and site visits.

Crew Day rate Half-day
Photographer $1,400 $1,000
Assistant $450 $300
Gear & insurance $200
File handling $200
Editing $80/image
Retouching $100/hour
Site visit $400

Portrait photography

Our portrait photography starts at $290 per person for a single photo, with a discounted rate of $440 per person for two photos. Rates decrease as the number of people increase, making it a cost-effective option for larger teams.

Construction shoots

We offer efficient, lower-cost shoots tailored for construction sites. These shoots are designed to be quick and effective, typically a two-hour session with minimal gear to avoid interruption on site, and an expedient editing process without revision rounds for a fast turnaround. Pricing for these shoots starts at $1,800 for video and $1,500 for photo, which includes editing and content delivery.

Production plans

For clients looking to work with us on a longer-term basis, we offer content production plans. By planning and producing content together over an extended period, we can create efficiencies in preproduction and editing, ultimately providing better value.

Cost-sharing

Cost-sharing for both video and photo productions can be arranged prior to the completion of production and final invoicing. For video, we facilitate cost-sharing among those directly involved in the production, allowing them to efficiently share the investment.

For photo productions, we follow established industry practices, adding a sub-license fee per party, with the overall cost shared amongst all.

Third-party licensing

For third-party usage requests after the initial production, our approach varies based on content type. For photography, we offer package rates on a per-image basis. For video, we often provide custom-tailored snippets derived from the original content, with pricing determined by the required production time and proportionate to the original production cost.

There are several factors can impact the overall cost of a production

Factors that can increase costs:

  • Number of Interviews: More interviews require additional filming time, crew, and editing
  • Additional Filming Days: Complex projects may need extra days to capture all the necessary footage
  • Extensive Gear Requirements: High-end gear for cinematic effects, complex lighting setups, or specialised equipment will add to the costs
  • Longer Run Times: Projects with longer final outputs require more shooting and editing time
  • More Locations: Multiple locations increase travel time, logistics, and setup requirements
  • Larger or Complex Projects: Projects involving intricate direction, multiple scenes, or challenging environments
  • Difficult Locations or Access: Locations that are hard to reach or require special permissions may incur additional expenses
  • Permissions: Securing permits for filming in certain locations can add to the cost
  • Talent: Hiring actors or other on-screen talent will increase production costs
  • Travel and Accommodation: For shoots outside the metro area, travel and accommodation costs may apply

Factors that can reduce costs:

  • Smaller Production Scope: Fewer scenes, simpler setups, and shorter filming days can reduce costs
  • Small Projects: Less complex projects with limited requirements will naturally cost less
  • Fewer or No Interviews: Projects that don’t involve interviews or have minimal interview content will save on filming and editing time
  • Shorter Form Content: Shorter videos require less time for shooting, editing, and post-production
